Runge Takes Home Award

Runge Takes Home Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After two stellar games in the week of Jan. 2 – 8 for her Mount Mary University Blue Angels, Jess Runge (Sr./Freedom, Wis.) has been named the next Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week.

In the week's first contest, Runge led her Blue Angels (2-7) back from down 19 to a near comeback against North Central (Minn.). The Rams (3-9) escaped with a 67-61 win, but Runge's 7-of-8 performance from the free throw line led to a 15 point night for the senior guard in her first game back after missing four prior.

Runge capped off the week knocking down 10-of-10 field goals in the Blue Angels 81-43 win over Robert Morris University Springfield (0-10). The rare perfect game from the field resulted in a 24 point finish including five steals and seven rebounds.

Just short of the AD3I threshold for games played (60 percent), Runge's 57.9 percent field goal shooting would be second in the association with one more game played. An average performance from the field for Runge in the Blue Angels next game will make the senior guard eligible for the association's rankings.

Watch Runge and the Blue Angels take on Silver Lake College (9-4) Jan. 13 at 6:00 pm. The game will take place at the Bloechl Center and be available with live video and live stats on mtmaryathletics.com.
