MILWAUKEE – This week, the Mount Mary University basketball team begins the 2019 season. The Blue Angels return their core starters after their program setting season last year where MMU Basketball finished 8-11 while also adding to the team's depth. On Tuesday, the American Collegiate Athletic Association will announce their annual all-conference teams for women's soccer and volleyball.

Basketball

On Friday, the Blue Angels will face the Northland College Lumberjills. The afternoon contest will be the season opener for both teams and will be the first two home contest this weekend for MMU. The Lumberjills finished 5-17 last season and split with the Blue Angels in their two-game series.

The following afternoon, the Blue Angels will host Blackburn College at 5:00 pm. The Beavers finished 5-20 last season with one of their losses coming by the way of the Blue Angels. Starters Rae Grubbs (Sr./Covington, Ind.) and Erica Williams (Jr./Bloomington, Ill.) combined for 42 of MMU's 74 points in their win over the Blackburn, the third highest offensive output for MMU last season.

In fact, Williams and Grubbs accounted for much of MMU's offense in 2018-19. The duo were the top one and two scorers for MMU and by a product of that scored just below 50 percent of the team's points last year.
