MILWAUKEE (Sept. 19, 2025) — The Mount Mary University community is grieving following a tragic automobile accident in Milwaukee that took the lives of a student's mother and two siblings earlier this week. Our hearts are with our student, her family, and all who loved them.
A campus prayer service was held Thursday, Sept. 18, where teammates, coaches, faculty, staff, and members of the University community gathered in solidarity and prayer. We are grateful to Campus Ministry, Athletics, and Student Affairs for creating a space of comfort and support during this profoundly difficult time.
"Our first priority is the well-being of our student," said Mount Mary President Isabelle Cherney. "We hold her and her family in prayer and will surround her with care, compassion, and the resources she needs."
Out of respect for the family's privacy, Mount Mary University will not be releasing the student's name or additional details at this time. We ask media and the public to honor the family's request for privacy and to refrain from contacting the student or her teammates directly. Any inquiries should be directed to the Office of Marketing & Communications.
Students, faculty, and staff seeking support may contact Campus Ministry and Counseling & Wellness for spiritual care and counseling services.
Additionally, the soccer team will honor the student and her family prior to kickoff of Saturday's home match vs. Trinity Christian at 1:30 p.m. on the Mount Mary campus (Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025).
We share this statement with deep sorrow and will provide updates only if and when the family wishes to communicate further.
