MMU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

MMU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

“Mount Mary’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council is made up of individual leaders from all six of MMU’s sports. We on the committee try to provide solutions to various issues within the athletic community on campus primarily through fundraising and volunteering efforts. We currently partner with Special Olympics—the largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities—and volunteer at a variety of different events, including the Polar Plunge in 2012. We have also partnered with surrounding schools to help get youth interested and more involved in sports.”

SAAC Constitution

Mount Mary's SAAC has been working to improve their pressence on campus as athletic role models. Members have spent time improving the athletic environment, volunteered with Special Olympics, and worked with a number of other campus clubs and organizations.

Mount Mary enters SO College partnership with Special Olympics Wisconsin

The 2016-17 school year marked the beginning of a new partnership between Mount Mary University and Special Olympics Wisconsin, when MMU became a member of Special Olympics College. Instead of only keeping the partnership between Blue Angel and Special Olympics athletes, we have joined forces with SO College to get the entire campus involved! Starting at week one, MMU has strived to find ways to fundraise, volunteer, and eventually host events on campus. The goal is for Special Olympians and Mount Mary students to work together to a common goal of having fun and raising awareness!

From the SO College website: "Created by college students for college students, SO College connects higher education students and individuals with intellectual disabilities in their school or surrounding community. Through sports and leadership opportunities, students build friendships, develop leadership skills and help lead Special Olympics’ movement for acceptance and respect. SO College activates young leaders in three areas that mirror Unified Champion Schools core components: inclusive sports, youth leadership and advocacy, and whole school engagement. All three of these components are vital to enhancing the SO College experience for all students."
