MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University softball team experienced déjà vu in Wednesday's matchup at Milwaukee School of Engineering, dropping both contests to the Raiders 30-0 and 9-0 in a pair of 5-inning games.

Powerful MSOE hitting, paired with a rather uninspired defensive effort in game one led to Mount Mary's most lopsided defeat of the 2014 season. The Blue Angels gave up 25 hits and tallied eight fielding errors in the 30-run defeat. Offensively, they struggled as well with just two hits in the opening contest.

Sophomore Tracy Boutell (Brown Deer, Wis.) and freshman Lauren Wiech (Colgate, Wis.) were the only two MMU batter to record a hit in the game.

After a short break, the two teams returned to the field for a much more competitive contest. Defensively, Mount Mary cut its errors in half—unfortunately, its hit total was also cut in half.

Boutell's one-out single through the left side in the second inning was all the Blue Angels mustered in the nightcap as MMU batters grounded into two double-plays on the day.

Despite a tough outing, Wednesday's games offered a silver lining of sorts and MSOE and MMU paired up to Strikeout Cancer for the second straight season. Both teams chose respective types of cancer for which to fundraise, Mount Mary sporting the teal for ovarian cancer awareness.

Mount Mary senior Katie Wolk (Oshkosh, Wis.) was also honored at Wednesday's game, as she will be representing the Blue Angel tennis team Friday at the Great South Athletic Conference championships in Atlanta, Ga.

The Blue Angels will play their final home games of the season Friday afternoon against AD3I rival Maranatha Baptist University. It will be the third MMU-MBU double-header of the season and second showdown at Kulwicki Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday.
