Edwards named Head Coach of softball program

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University Department of Athletics announced the promotion of Tim Edwards this week, officially removing the "Interim" tag from his head softball coaching status.

"Coach Edwards came in and immediately took ownership of the Blue Angel softball program," Director of Athletics Marc Heidorf said. "The time and effort he has put in made this an easy decision.

"I am excited to see what he can do now that the shackles of being 'interim' have been removed."

Edwards took over the Mount Mary softball program last fall, becoming the third coach in as many seasons. This past spring, Edwards guided the 2014 Blue Angels to a 3-29 overall record, breaking a 36-game losing streak in the process. He also organized a successful week-long trip to the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic softball tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., this March, getting in an integral eight games over the span of four days of competition.

Most importantly for the longevity of the program, Edwards has been hot on the recruiting trail since his takeover last November. A strong core of returning Blue Angels, paired with a promising class of incoming softball recruits could bode well for Edwards in his second year at the helm.

The Mount Mary softball team will cap off this season's storyline with the announcement of the Association of Division III Independents teams, slated for this Thursday.
