Stars Take Two From Blue Angels

ROSEMONT, Ill. – As Mount Mary University (2-12) begins their midseason stretch, they dropped both games Saturday March 21st in their doubleheader against Dominican University (11-3).

In the first contest, the Blue Angels were victims of their own play. MMU allowed two early errors in the bottom of the first and some old fashioned "small ball" by the Stars plated their first two runs.

In the bottom of the second, the Blue Angels allowed an inside the park homerun along with two more base hits that allowed the Stars to get out to an early 4-0 start.

Down 6-0 in the top of the sixth, the Blue Angels sparked a rally with a leadoff walk by Molly Peck (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) that led to a run off a passed ball. That patience turned up the only run of game one for the Blue Angels.

The Stars added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and retired the Blue Angels on popup double-play ending the game 8-1 in the seventh.

Game two found the Stars ahead early, after a two run first, Dominican scored eight runs in the their turn in the second. The Blue Angels did not answer until the top of the fourth frame when Katie Edwards (Sr./Mackinaw, Ill.) knocked in her eighth RBI of the season on a double to center field.

Never giving up the fight, MMU loaded up the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth, but left the runners stranded and finished the game 13-1 in a five inning fight.

The Blue Angels surrendered just nine earned runs of the 21 runs scored by the Stars, and both starting pitchers finished with complete games; Nikki Festge (Jr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and Ashley Contreras (Fr./College Station, Texas).

Now it is time for the Blue Angels to battle against Lakeland College (5-9). The Muskies will come to town on Monday March 23rd with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 3:00 pm. The home opener for MMU will be held at the Rock Complex in Franklin, Wis.
