Warriors Blue Angels Square Off

Warriors Blue Angels Square Off

After the weather intervened on Monday, Mount Mary University softball (2-12) is preparing for their new home opener Thursday March 26th at the Rock Complex in Franklin, Wis. against Wisconsin Lutheran College (3-6). First pitch of this double header is scheduled for 3:00 pm.

2014 was the last time these two teams met, the Blue Angels matched hit for hit with the Warriors, but a few errors by MMU and some timely hitting by WLC led to a 8-3 Warriors victory. The second contest swayed heavily in favor of Wisconsin Lutheran College as they hit safely 17 times plating 21 runs in the contest and putting it out of reach early.

With drastic lineup changes in both dugouts, Thursday's game could provide quit exciting. The Blue Angels have added eight players to their roster, a number of which with state honors in high school. Along with the addition of solid pitching, the Blue Angels are on the rise.

In just the first portion of the 2015 season, the Blue Angels have 69 hits in 14 games, as opposed 101 hits in the full 32 games during the 2014 campaign. Not to mention the 16 extra base hits so far this season, while last year the Blue Angels finished with 24 XBH.

Along with nearly a 45 percent decrease in ERA from last season to this season, MMU continues to improve across the field.

The Warriors are on a three game losing streak, and have not played a game since their last doubleheader at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic March 13th. Like the Blue Angels, WLC is a young team, 11 of their 16 players are underclassmen. Leading the way is freshman Brittany Koss with a .448 batting average, a team leading 14 hits, 6 RBIs and a .586 slugging percentage.

Following the Warriors, the Blue Angels will get ready for a doubleheader against Rockford University Thursday April 2nd with the first game starting at 3:00 pm. The games will be held in Franklin, Wis. at the Rock Complex.
