Blue Angels Fight Cold And Warriors

Blue Angels Fight Cold And Warriors

FRANKLIN, Wis. – In Thursday's doubleheader, visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College (5-6) defeated Mount Mary University (2-14) in both games at the Rock Complex. The sweep snaps the Warriors three game losing streak.

Although the temperatures were below freezing at first pitch, both teams had hot bats throughout the Thursday's games. Each team bashed 10 hits in game one and the classic battle provided another peek into what the Blue Angels can do when they are firing on all cylinders.

The boost in offensive production coincided with a few major tweaks of the batting order. Coach Tim Edwards changes in the lineup sparked some big games for his roster.

Down 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Blue Angels had some timely hitting, bringing in four runs off of four hits while Katie Edwards (Sr./Mackinaw, Ill.) tallied her team leading ninth RBI of the year.

Molly Peck (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) was one of the many Blue Angels who felt a positive boost in today's batting order change, going 2-3 from the plate with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Along with Peck, Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) found her rhythm at the plate going 3-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases in game one.

While the temperatures kept dropping, the fight in the Blue Angels maintained. Down 4-1 in the third, Blue Angel Nicole Weggen (Jr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) hit a clutch two out double to right field, then it was up to Katie Edwards again, who blasted a shot to left center to give the senior her 10th RBI of the year.

After the Warriors added two more in the fourth, Hintz rekindled the Blue Angels fight with a leadoff double. After two strikeouts and Hintz swiping third, Michelle Argenzio (Jr./Brookfield, Wis.) laced a single to centerfield to make the score 6-2. That would be the closest the Blue Angels could get, as the Warriors added one in the fifth and three in the sixth inning to end the game 10-2 in six innings.

Now the Blue Angels will prepare for a doubleheader against Rockford University Thursday April 2nd with the first game starting at 3:00 pm. The games will be held in Franklin, Wis. at the Rock Complex.
