Plymouth, Wis. -- Today at the Lakeland University Softball Field the Mount Mary University softball team lost a host Lakeland University (11-13) in both games of their mid-season doubleheader. The Muskies took game one by a score of 9-1 then took the second contest a score of 14-6.

The Blue Angels (6-16) got on top early in the first contest when senior infielder Jess Runge (Freedom, Wis.) delivered with the lead-off triple. Then sophomore Madison Ledda (Tracy, Calif.) did the veteran move of hitting the ball to the second base side, grounding out and scoring Runge making things 1 -0.

The Muskies then took the lead in the bottom half of the second inning when Taylor Bush unleashed and hit a two-run home run making things 2-1.

Katie Arce (Fr./Cypress, Calif.) was responsible for the second hit for the Blue Angels. She laced a single in the top of the fourth inning. That was right before the Blue Angels loaded the bases, but stranded all three runners.

LU ended things in the bottom of the fifth inning when their offense exploded for six more hits and seven runs. The ninth run would stretch the lead to eight and end the game early.

Hannah Harnsberger (Fr./Hillsboro, Ore.) was given the loss and is now 3-8 on the season. The rookie pitcher went 4.1 innings surrendering nine hits, nine runs and nine earned runs.

MMU got their bats going in the second game coming through for a combined 11 hits. Although the Muskies led throughout the entire second contest, the Blue Angels continued to attack on offense.

The Blue Angels put up one hit in each inning until the fourth, when three straight two-out hits, including an RBI-single from Stephanie Norman (Fr./Noblesville, Ind.), setup Lisa George (Fr./Naches, Wash.) who launched her first homerun of the season. The deep shot made things 9-4.

The Muskies added two more in their half of the fourth to separate things once more. The Blue Angels nipped away in the fifth with an Amelia Flint (Jr./Whitefish Bay, Wis.) sacrifice fly and in the sixth when Sidnee Turnage (Fr./Hesperia, Calif.) ripped an RBI-single up the middle.
