Preview Maranatha Baptist University vs MMU: II

WATERTOWN, Wis. – Today at Brandt Quirk Park, the Mount Mary University softball team will take on host Maranatha Baptist University (6-16). The Blue Angels (6-16) swept the first series by a combined score of 30-8 and are strolling into the Sabercats home field winning the last 13 meetings against MBU.

Although on a four-game losing streak on the season, the Blue Angels bats have kept the team going through this stretch. Most recently the Blue Angels received a few stellar performances from their new comers including a 3-for-4 game from first basemen Sidnee Turnage (Fr./Hesperia, Calif.) and a 2-for-2 ballgame from outfielder Amelia Flint (Jr./Whitefish Bay, Wis.) who planted a double and an RBI against the Muskies on Apr. 11.

Lisa George (Fr./Naches, Wash.) got her first homerun of the season in the same contest while she drove in three of the six scored runs against Lakeland (14-16) with one swing of the bat.

For the Sabercats, Hannah May and Harmony Bailey lead the team's offense with a combined 45 RBIs. Both MBU batters can turn on a pitch as May is second in the Association of Division III Independents with four homeruns: Bailey has launched two of her own.

In the circle, both teams give up an average of one or more runs per inning. The Blue Angels have the slight edge with a 7.50 ERA, 1.28 runs per game less than their opponents. Leading for MMU, Hannah Harnsburger (Fr./Hillsboro, Ore.) has labored through 60.0 innings with a 7.23 ERA.

MBU splits time between Bailey and Brooke Campbell in the circle. Campbell so far has led the way with 65.1 innings pitched and has posted a 6.75 ERA on the season.

Offensively, the two teams are nearly identical and only stray .002 points away from each other in team batting average. Where MMU has a .010 advantage in on-base percentage, MBU has the .020 advantage in slugging percentage.
