Trojans Capture Doubleheader

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Today at the Infinity Fields, visiting Trinity International University (25-13) defeated the Mount Mary University softball team in both games of their doubleheader. The Trojans took the first contest 19-0 in five innings, then won the second game 9-0 in five innings.

Hannah Harnsberger (So./Hillsboro, Ore.) started game one in the circle for the Blue Angels (4-18). The Trojans attacked at the plate early and nabbed the first hit in the contest. After a steal and a groundout, the Blue Angels were looking to close out the opening inning. Then the Trojans struck for four more hits including a two-run homerun by Alyssa Doomis that made things 6-0 before MMU took their first at-bat.

Adrianna Nester (So./Anaheim, Calif.) came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning and riffled a groundball through the right side for the Blue Angels first hit in the game.

After adding a run in the top of the second, the Trojans exploded for 10 more runs in the top of the third inning to effectively put things out of reach.

Lauren Harris (Jr./Sheridan, Ill.) recorded her first hit of the season in the bottom half of the third inning when the junior ripped a ball through the left side of the infield.

TIU added two more runs in the top of the fifth to make things 19-0 and end the game after five innings.

Harnsberger is now 2-9 on the season and went 5.0 innings surrendering 12 earned runs off 20 hits.

Nester started as pitcher in game two against TIU. The sophomore pitcher was able to start the game off with her first of three batters, but then walked the next batter. After a steal, a two-out single by the Trojans gave them the early 1-0 lead.

TIU added two more runs in the second inning off a pair of hits and a walk. The hits both came early, but a timely error led to the Trojans going up 3-0.

Michaela Buchholz (So./Germantown, Wis.) led off the Blue Angels turn in the second with a double to left field. Following a sacrifice bunt, Buchholz moved to third, but was stranded after a pair of strikeouts from the Blue Angels.

A pair of singles and two doubles in the fourth inning led to the Trojans going up 6-0. Then TIU expanded the lead to 9-0 in the fifth inning after two hits and two base-by-balls score three runners and pushed the lead out.

Nester finished game two and is 2-9 on the season. She went 5.0 innings surrendering eight earned runs off 11 hits.

The Blue Angels will return to action Tuesday when they take on their rival Maranatha Baptist University. The doubleheader is scheduled for Tue. May 1 in Watertown, Wis. with first pitch at 5:00 pm. Live stats will be available at mtmaryathetlics.com.
