
Galesburg, IL- The Mount Mary softball team headed to Knox College on Friday hoping to continue their momentum from a two game sweep of Maranatha Baptist on Thursday.
The two teams split the games on the day, with Knox winning game one by a 13-9 score and the Blue Angels taking game two by a 6-4 final.
Game one got off to a great start for MMU, Micaela Gonzalez tripled and scored on an error to put the Blue Angels up 1-0 to lead off the game. Mount Mary would lead 5-1 before Knox staged a remarkable comeback. The Prairie Fire scored twelve runs in the game's last two innings to claim a 13-9 victory.
The Blue Angels actually out hit Knox, MMU pounded out 15 hits to 14 for Knox. Kylie Ann Kluck was 3-4 on the contest, while Amanda Nance, Lillian Fay, Alexandria Eads, and Micaela Gonzalez each contributed two hits to the cause.
In Game 2, The Blue Angels shot out to a 4-0 lead, Knox would even the game at 4 and then MMU reclaimed the advantage at 6-4.
Lily Day would make that lead hold up as the Blue Angels claimed the 6-4 victory in game 2.
Day picked up the complete game pitching victory, her second in as many days.
Jodie Penman paced the MMU offense, going 3-4 with three runs batted in. Taylor Hames and Amanda Nance both had two hits for the Blue Angels in the game two win.
Mount Mary (6-19) will be back in action on Sunday, April 27th. The Blue Angels will host Calumet College at Maslowski Community Park in Glendale. The doubleheader is scheduled for 12 and 2 pm. Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all coverage of Blue Angel softball.
