Coach Terri Mitchell And MMU To Host Coaches' Clinic

Coach Terri Mitchell And MMU To Host Coaches' Clinic

Coach Terri Mitchell and Mount Mary University are teaming together in efforts to give back to the community. This Saturday, Oct. 25th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm the Bloechl Center will be open to coaches of all levels for the Terri Mitchell Coaches' Clinic. Admission will be free for everyone.

In 18 years as head coach of Marquette University, and five as an assistant, Coach Mitchell has seen almost everything. Coach Mitchell took over for the Marquette University women's basketball program in 1996.

Within one year of Coach Mitchell's tutelage, Marquette went from 8-20, in '95-'96, to 21-10 in the following year with an NCAA tournament berth. Over Coach Mitchell's span on the sidelines for Marquette, she tallied 348 wins and seven postseason appearances.

Now that Coach Mitchell is taking time off, she has decided to give back to the community. Among a trip to Africa with "Soles for Jesus," a charity that provides Sub-Saharan Africa with shoes for the underprivileged, Coach Mitchell has worked in prison ministries, and is now trying to give back to her own community here in Milwaukee.

On Saturday Coach Mitchell will continue to give back to the community, reaching out to all local coaches (or any willing to make the trip) of any level, any gender, or any financial status, since it is completely free.

In an interview on Mount Mary's campus, Coach Mitchel pointed out why she is taking her time to take part in the coaches' clinic, "Basketball has given me so much. I started playing at the age of nine. I look at all the benefits and blessings I've had through the game of basketball."

Coach Marc Heidorf, the Head Mount Mary University Basketball Coach, is also excited about the partnership with Coach Terri Mitchell,

"Good coaches are always looking for that one drill or that one approach that is going to help take their players to the next level of understanding/execution.  The opportunity to spend an afternoon with Coach Mitchell and get perspective into what has been successful for her is a great one.  Hosting or not, you can bet I would be the guy in the stands, furiously taking notes at an event like this!"

Space is still available for coaches, register today or when you get to the Bloechl Center. Check out more information on the clinic here. Tune into facebook.com/MountMaryAthletics for more with Coach Mitchell first hand.
