Blue Angels Beat Eagles For First Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Mount Mary University Blue Angels won today against Emmaus Bible College 77-49. With the first victory of the 2014-15 season, the Blue Angels move to 1-6.

The first half showed how good this young defense can play, and how that play translates into a more productive front court. MMU jumped ahead 33-11, as they held the Eagles to only six points from the field in the half while the rest came from the free-throw line.

As the second half saw a more offensive production from the Eagles, the Blue Angels continued to add on themselves as they outscored  EBC 44-38. Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) was instrumental in the second half as she had 17 points on her way to finishing with 25.

Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) seemed to get an extra boost from her home state as she dropped 27 points on the night, nine of those coming from the charity stripe. After the Blue Angels hosted Clarke University, Freeman has averaged over 15 points a game, and over 7 rebounds a game.

It was a good night for the Blue Angels, Coach Marc Heidorf was pleased with what he saw, "I think we finally started to learn a valuable lesson with today's win, that being the more we can work together and share the load, the more manageable the task in front of us can be."

"It's a good note to go out on heading into the holiday break but we also know there is still work to be done ahead."

The Blue Angels will head into break on that high note, as they will have nearly a month to prepare for their next contest against Finlandia University. The second half of the season begins Saturday Jan. 3rd in Hancock, Mich. at 12:00 pm.
