NCAA Series: Marian leads 2-0.

The Sabres are coming into the game at 1-0 after defeating Lawrence University 57-28. The defensive effort from Marian held Lawrence to 10 first half points. Teaming with an offensive awakening in the first quarter where the Sabres went 8-of-15 from the field, and shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line.

The roster for Marian is a good mix of upper and underclassmen, with some of their top offensive threats returning from 2014-15. Nicole Paulus picked up where she left last season scoring 19 in their home opener against the Vikings.

With a relatively tall roster (7-of-10 players 5-7 or taller), freshmen guard Jordan Weidner who stands at 5-5 pulled in a team leading seven rebounds while also leading the team with five assists.

The Blue Angels (1-2) have been energized by Becky Onan's (So./Grafton, Wis.) recent performances. Onan comes into the basketball season just days after she finished the season with the Blue Angels soccer team. Leading the team with 16.0 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 1.3 steals per game (four-way tie) and 2.3 blocks per game.

Newcomers Ariel Oviedo (Jr./Shawano, Wis.) and Katie Swofford (Fr./West Allis, Wis.) have also been big to the offensive strike averaging 8.0 and 7.0 points per game respectively.
