Regents Recoup For Win

MILWAUKEE – Today at the Bloechl Center, the Mount Mary University women's basketball team lost to visiting Rockford University (2-1) by a final score of 64-49. The Blue Angels are now on a three game losing streak and sit at 1-3 before Thanksgiving.

Leading the night offensively Brooke Uebersetzig (Fr./Greenwood, Ind.) started off the Blue Angels with seven points in the opening quarter on her way to a team leading 15 points. The rookie, trying to fill the shoes of the missing Jess Runge (Sr./Freedom, Wis.), also set the Blue Angels offense up by leading the quarter with three assists.

The big quarter by Uebersetzig translated to the Blue Angels leading by five points at the beginning of the second frame. Keeping MMU off the offensive glass and hitting 6-of-12 in the second quarter, the Regents held within striking range as they went into half down 29-24.

MMU's Ariel Oviedo (Sr./Shawano, Wis.) knocked down the second half's first basket giving the Blue Angels a seven point lead, the largest of the half for Mount Mary. Following that, the Regents went on a 20-6 run in the next eight minutes to turn the tables and capture a seven point lead. Rockford outscored the Blue Angels 24-10 in the third to take a 48-39 lead to the final frame.

The Regents held on in the fourth quarter forcing the Blue Angels to shoot 4-of-12 from the field and also forcing eight MMU turnovers in the final 10 minutes. A breakout 5-of-5 quarter from Regent Taylor May separated Rockford as time evaporated.

"Credit to Rockford [sic], they hit shots and kept the pressure on, we just went cold at the right time," Mount Mary Head Basketball Coach Marc Heidorf said of the night. "I like the minutes our freshmen (Brooke [Uebersetzig], Rae [Grubbs], Lucy [Pavelko]) are logging right now.  Even when they make mistakes, you can see them processing the errors and trying to make adjustments in game.  That is next level stuff that is going to serve them and us well as the season progresses."

Mallorie Getzelman led the game in scoring with 25 points as she went 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

Becky Onan (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) finished the game with 10 points, a game high eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals as she logged 38 minutes on the night. Teammate Ariel Oviedo also knocked down 10 points and swiped away three steals of her own before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

After the holiday, the Blue Angels will host Lakeland University (1-3) Wed. Nov. 30 at the Bloechl Center. Live stats and video will be made available for the rematch against the Muskies at mtmaryathletics.com. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm next Wednesday.
