Preview Andrews vs MMU: II

MILWAUKEE – Today at the Bloechl Center, the Mount Mary University women's basketball team will play their final home game with Ariel Oviedo (Sr./Shawano, Wis.) and Jess Runge (Sr./Freedom, Wis.) on their roster. Hosting Andrews University (4-15) on Senior Day, the Blue Angels (6-12) look to even up the season series when the 6:30 pm tipoff commences.

The Cardinals are coming into the Bloechl Center on a three-game losing streak. The last win for AU was in fact against MMU on January 29th of this year. MMU led for three quarters in that contest against the Cardinals, but AU put up a 21 point fourth quarter and captured the late lead and win.

A solid core of sophomores, the Cardinals receive the bulk of their scoring from sophomores Kia Williams, Allison Walean and Brianna Kittleson. Williams averages a double-double this season and not shockingly leads her squad with 19.2 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game.

The Blue Angels most recently defeated Moody Bible Institute (0-9) by a final score of 78-38. The game included two outstanding individual performances by Runge and Becky Onan (Jr./Grafton, Wis.). Runge set her NCAA single game scoring mark with 25 points as the senior shot 10-of-11 from the field. Onan scored 12 and dished out seven assists and grabbed seven steals.

With just two games left on the schedule for the Blue Angels, they have a chance to tie the school's single season win record of eight. MMU has made their presence known in the Bloechl Center as they are 5-5 at home this season.

The Blue Angels will look to capitalize on that success by hosting Gold Rush Day tonight at the Bloechl Center. As the Mount Mary University basketball team attempts to set the new attendance record for an MMU game, they will hand out free Gold Rush T-Shirts to the first 150 fans. Set at 202 fans in attendance by the 2013 Mount Mary volleyball team, the Blue Angels will need to pack the stands to set a new record.
