MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University basketball team lost to visiting Lincoln Christian University by a final score of 71-49 tonight at the Bloechl Center. The Red Lions never trailed throughout their 11th win of the season as they moved the Blue Angels to 10-9 on the year.

LCU opened up the game on a quick 6-0 run, but the Blue Angels quickly answered back with a Brooke Uebersetzig (Jr./Greenwood, Ind.) three-pointer to cut that deficit in half. The Red Lions continued to hit an effective 42.9 percent from the field throughout the frame and pushed the early first quarter lead out to 20-13.

Although the Red Lions added to the lead in the second quarter, the Blue Angels had their highest offensive output of the night in the same frame. After LCU scored the first four points in the quarter, the Blue Angels went on a 7-0 run of their own. The Blue Angels hit 7-of-12 from the field in the second and 2-of-4 from outside the 3-point line. The Red Lions finished the frame with zero turnovers which helped them to their 40-29 lead at halftime.

MMU began the second half with a 7-4 run that shrunk the deficit down to a three-possession game, but the Red Lions came back with a 10-2 run of their own to slowly push their lead out further. LCU hit 8-of-15 from the field, but the Blue Angels were able to force four turnovers in the quarter to stifle their opponent.

The Blue Angels held their opponent to their lowest offensive output of the evening in the final quarter. MMU held the Red Lions to just 5-of-19 from the field and 1-of-4 from outside for a total of 11 points. MMU continued to attack while Megan Johnson (Fr./Waukesha, Wis.) scored five of the team's seven points in the final frame.

Johnson finished the game with her season high of 18 points. The young guard hit 7-of-14 from the field and 2-of-4 from outside as she led the Blue Angels in scoring for the first time this season.

"We just couldn't match their energy level tonight. They were the aggressors and were able to dictate tempo," said Mount Mary Head Basketball Coach Marc Heidorf.

"MJ [Johnson] and Mel [Golo] played solid in the second half which is something that could pay dividends heading into these final two games versus Maranatha."

Teammate Brooke Uebersetzig helped out on offense with eight points on 2-of-4 from outside as well as three rebounds.

The Blue Angels return to action on Sat. Feb. 16 against their longtime rival Maranatha Baptist University. MMU and the Sabercats are schedule for a 2:00 pm start on Saturday. Live stats and video will be made available for the contest at MtMaryAthletics.com.
