Rams Capture Victory

MILWAUKEE – Tonight at the Bloechl Center, the Mount Mary University basketball team lost to visiting North Central University by a score of 75-50. The Rams are now 1-2 on the young season while the Blue Angels move to 0-3.

Guard Megan Johnson (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) led the Blue Angels in offense tonight against the Rams. Johnson hit 2-of-8 from outside and a perfect 2-of-2 from inside the 3-point arc. Johnson finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.

Teammates Erica Williams (Jr./Bloomington, Ill.) and Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Worth, Ind.) both got their offense going in the second half as the two both Blue Angels came away with nine points in the game. Williams pulled in a team high eight rebounds and finished 4-of-11 from the field after starting off the first half 1-of-7. Hardy added five points in the second half scoring at least one basket each quarter.

After falling behind early, the Blue Angels scored six straight after guards Melissa Golo (So./Boise, Idaho) and Megan Johnson got the offense going. The two teams traded scores over the next five minutes until the Rams went ahead 12-11 on a quick layup in the lane. The Blue Angels recaptured the lead after Johnson hit a 3-pointer, but the 6-2 run by the Rams gave NCU a 19-16 lead after the first quarter.

The Rams quickly jumped out to a five-point lead in the second quarter, but the Blue Angels rallied scoring four straight. After that, NCU slowly pushed their lead out to 34-25 at halftime.

The Blue Angels forced the opposition into 11 second half turnovers but could never cut the deficit to under 11. NCU hit 7-of-14 from outside the three-point line in the second half while limiting MMU to 2-of-16 from distance in the final 20 minutes.

In the last quarter of the game, the Blue Angels bench gave the team a boost. MMU's bench went on to score seven of the team's ten points in the final frame.

After tonight, the Blue Angels will return to the court tomorrow for their first road contest of 2019-20. The Blue Angels will head to the Windy City to take on Illinois Tech for the Scarlet Hawks opening game of the season. Check back to MtMaryAthletics.com for news, updates and scores.
