Milwaukee,WI- The Mount Mary University Basketball team headed to cross town rival Alverno College on Tuesday evening. The Blue Angels very simply could never find a shooting groove in the contest, shooting 24% from the floor and 15% from behind the three point line as they dropped the contest to the Inferno by a 57-45 final.
In spite of their offensive struggles, Mount Mary stayed in the game in the first half, trailing only 23-21 at the break. A Vanessa Diaz three point make put MMU up in the third quarter, and the Blue Angels would stretch their lead to as much as four. But in a similar fashion to Saturday's contest at Blackburn, the fourth quarter did not go Mount Mary's way, leading to the 12 point loss.
Alverno shot 33% from the floor to Mount Mary's 24%, and the Inferno were 9-23 from behind the three point line, while the Blue Angels never found success from behind the arc going 4-26.
India Lucas paced Mount Mary in scoring with 15 points and she added six rebounds. Vanessa Diaz dropped in 13 points and grabbed four rebounds. Deja Rivers had 8 rebounds to lead Mount Mary and added four assists.
The Blue Angels (3-3) will resume play after the Thanksgiving Holiday on Sunday, November 26th. Mount Mary will host the Knights of Martin Luther College. The game will begin at 1 pm and all coverage will be available at www.mtmaryathletics.com
