Blue Angels Top Rival

GREENFIELD, Wis. – Today at Greenfield Park Golf Course, Mount Mary University Golf finished ahead of host Alverno in team scoring 491-495. Katelyn Bartlett from Alverno finished first in individual play with a 106 on the round. The win marks the first time this season the Blue Angels finished as the top team in a dual.

A very close team matchup, the Blue Angels top performer was Taylor Yordt (So./Omaha, Neb.) with a 110 in her 2016 debut. Yordt finished the front nine with a 58, then came out of the turn with a strong 52 to get a second place individual finish.

Teammate Jaqlyn Artman (Fr./Eldorado, Ill.) finished in third place with a strong front nine (54), and a 115 overall after ending the day with five straight triple bogeys.

A tough day for both teams as the damp and cool conditions were not ideal. Head Golf Coach Marc Heidorf added, "The rain this week wreaked havoc on the practice schedule. Seemed to hurt us around the hole as we struggled in the short game."

"The great thing to see was the ladies stay strong mentally. Ariel [Oviedo] putted in from the fringe twice in the back nine. Courtney [Furlow] did very well for her first match in the No. 3 spot."

Courtney Furlow's 133 tied Ariel Oviedo (Sr./Shawano, Wis.) for sixth place in the round. Furlow hit for par on the 11th hole at Greenfield, a 173 yard par-3. Teammate Katie Swofford (So./West Allis, Wis.) played in her first round of the 2016 regular season and finished with a 147 which placed her in 10th for individual scoring.

Following today's team win, the Blue Angels will prepare for a team dual against Lake Forest on Fri. Sept. 30 at 2:00 pm. Stay tuned to mtmaryathletics.com for updates and scores.
