Falcons Finish First

GREENFIELD, Wis. – Today at the first Mount Mary Invite of the 2018 golf season, the visiting Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons finished first in team scoring with a 427 team score. The Blue Angels finished with a team score of 576 placing them in third overall. Amy Carpenter, from CUW, won individual play with an even 100 on the round.

After a long stretch of rain hit the area, the Blue Angels moved their home opener from Currie Park Golf Course to Greenfield Park Golf Course. The alternate home for the Blue Angels played familiar to MMU as the team opened up the season at GPGC last weekend against their rival Alverno College.

Just like last week, Haley Jacquez (Jr./Oakley, Calif.) led MMU on the scorecard with a team low 125. The junior hit a 64 on the front nine, then took three strokes off her final nine holes to finish in ninth overall in the tournament. Jacquez was on target on the 14 th hole when she drilled a par on the 360-yard hole. It was the lowest score of the day on any hole for the Blue Angels.

Taylor Hienbuecher (Fr./Sycamore, Ill.) continued to show major signs of improvement in just her second collegiate round of golf. Much like Jacquez, Hienbuecher was able to shave three strokes off her final nine holes after the turn on her way to a 68 on the back nine. Her best hole came on a long par-3 when the freshman finished with a double bogey.

Melissa Golo (Fr./Boise, Idaho) and Ka'Riah Simmons (Fr./Genesee, Mich.) hit the links today for their first ever collegiate rounds. Golo finished with a 153 and Simmons scored a 158 in their inaugural rounds. Golo double bogeyed a 125-yard par-3 on the front nine.

The Blue Angels will return to Currie Park Golf Course tomorrow at 2:00 pm when they rekindle their rivalry with the Alverno Inferno. Stats, scores and updates on tomorrow's contest can be found at MtMaryAthletics.com.
