Blue Angels Defeat Rival

FRANKLIN, Wis. – The Mount Mary University golf team won their first dual match of the season today at Oakwood Golf Course. It was the first time in the program's brief history that MMU played at Oakwood, and Senior Jaclyn Hoffstetter (Darien, Ill.) lead the meet in individual play with a 97.

Hoffstetter tallied Mount Mary's best round of the season today against longtime rival Alverno. The two teams have met regularly since the Blue Angels began their golf program in 2015. After being swept last season, the Blue Angels turn the tables with Hoffstetter's performance. The senior grabbed a par in both the front and back nines to take first place by 22 strokes.

Second place for individual scoring was Haley Jacquez (Sr./Oakley, Calif.). Jacquez turned around from a 65 before the turn to a 54 in her final nine holes. Jacquez nailed a bogey on a long 400-yar par for on hole No. 12 on her way to 119: her season's best.

Taylor Hienbuecher (So./Sycamore, Ill.) logged a 127 along with her Alverno counterpart Brittney Hondel. Hienbuecher also used the turn, like teammate Jacquez, to shave three strokes off her total as she finished with a 62 in her final nine. A bogey on a 182-yard par three helped Hienbuecher grab fifth and help her team in overall scoring.

Melissa Golo (So./Boise, Idaho) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Angels. Golo spaced two bogeys out in her 18-hoile round. First on a 132-yard par three in the front nine, then on a 391-yard par four on the back nine. Golo finished with a 133 as she tied for eighth place with Alverno's Lauren Greif.

The Blue Angels return to the links tomorrow at Whispering Springs Golf Course for the Marian Invite. The multi-team tournament will span over Saturday and Sunday. For updates, news and scores on the Blue Angels, visit MtMaryAthletics.com.
