MILWAUKEE – The Blue Angels dropped the final game of the Mount Mary Invitational 8-0 to visiting Blackburn College.

The visiting Beavers came out firing at will, blasting away with 32 shots in the first half. Goalie Becky Onan (Fr./Cedarburg, Wis.) was up to task as she had 15 saves in the first half alone. Blackburn's relentlessness around the net would pay off however, as the Beavers would put four balls in goal during the first half.

The Blue Angels limited the offensive opportunities in the second half, as the Beavers would only be able to take 21 shots during the period. The defense and Onan would battle through, but would surrender four more goals in the second half, making the final 8-0.

Meghan Sykora  (Fr./Arnold, Mo.) would lead the way for the Beavers offensive efforts as she kicked 6 shots on goal, with four goals scored and two assists to boot.

Third year head soccer coach Joe Shokatz was quite encouraged by his team's defensive efforts, especially the efforts by the posts, "Becky (Onan) was once again the rock on the defense, constantly turning away shot after shot." Coach went on "...there is positive growth and improvement even through tough challenges of back to back games and the heat/humidity."

The Blue Angels will turn around and start preparing for their contest on Friday Sept. 5 against Eureka College with kickoff set for 5 pm.
