Big Defense For MMU Leads To Streak

WAUKEGAN, Ill. – The Blue Angels soccer team is on fire. Today Mount Mary University pushes their winning streak to four games as they defeated Robert Morris-Lake County 3-0. The game at the Waukegan Sports Complex is the fourth multi-goal game in a row for Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.).

Last game against the Eagles, MMU won big at 8-0, and also let Ristow notch another four goal game of which she now has four. The Blue Angels dominated the ball and controlled the games tempo throughout that first match.

The match today was a lot closer, not just because of the score. Down a few players, the Blue Angels still controlled the ball much of the contest, but allowed a few openings for the Eagles. The first goal of the game came quickly. At the one minute mark Ristow hit fellow "senior" Nina Her (Sr./Brown Deer, Wis.) on a break right in front of the goal box, where Her knocked it passed the goalkeeper while pushing off the defender.

With the game at 1-0, the Eagles put on their best efforts to pressure offensively. RMLC forward Jenny Sosa, riffled past the MMU line and got a shot to hit off of the crossbar, on the rebound Brianna Rodriguez had a shot at goal with Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) recovering from her jump at the first attempt, but the shot was off the mark. That was the last solid opportunity the Blue Angels would allow.

In the second half, Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.) assisted on two goals by Ristow. The second of which Ristow spun around one Eagle then broke past two defenders and placed the ball perfectly away from the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

MMU really took care of the defensive end of the field as they allowed just nine shots from the Eagles, and only three were on goal. Being down players seemed to have little effect on MMU as they deterred nearly every offensive alley for the Eagles.

Following the windy rematch, Mount Mary University go up against Alverno College. Another rematch for the Blue Angels, this one is set for Thursday Oct. 30th on Mount Mary Field with a 3:30 pm kickoff.
