Blue Angels Soccer Score Multiple Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents released their All-Independent women's soccer teams today. Following another standout season on the pitch, the Mount Mary University soccer team brought home a slew of honors in 2017. (Full 2017 All-Independent Team)

In a tight race in nearly every category, the Blue Angels were able to represent their school in one of the major yearly awards. Hannah Rose (So./Jeromesville, Ohio) earned the AD3I Goalkeeper of the Year for 2017. The sophomore led the AD3I in overall saves (127) and save percentage (.804). The defense from the back line of the Blue Angels in addition to Rose's efforts led four shutouts this season, and a 7-8-1 record.

Rose was then a shoe in for an AD3I first team honor. Teammate Becky Onan (Sr./Grafton, Wis.) was also named to the All-Independent first team as a midfielder. Onan scored four goals and dished out three assists this season while also leading as team captain. For Onan, that is the third time she has been named to an AD3I All-Independent team (MMU was not a member of the AD3I in 2015-16).

Four more Blue Angels were named to the AD3I second team. Allison Klotz (So./Port Washington, Wis.) led MMU's offense all season long, and finished fifth in the Association in goals (15) and overall points (33).

Joining Klotz on the All-Independent second team, is Karina Salgado (Jr./Chicago, Ill.) who controlled the ball through choppy waters many times and scored four goals and two assists on the season. Defenders Alexa Ahlgrim (So./Inverness, Ill.) and Renee Cleary (Fr./Slinger, Wis.) earned honors on the AD3I second team as well as they helped Rose finish four shutouts this season. Ahlgrim helped on offense at times with two goals and two assists on the season while Cleary added one goal of her own this year.

With over half the starters for the Blue Angels earning AD3I season awards, the Mount Mary University soccer team has much to celebrate. Falling one goal short of tying the program's single season record in wins, the Blue Angels still finished with a 7-8-1 record and have raised the prestige of the program in the region.
