Rams Rack Win

MINNELAPOLIS, Minn. – The Mount Mary University soccer team began their season today on the road. The Blue Angels traveled to the campus of North Central University where the Rams won the opener 10-0.

NCU got out to an early lead in the season's first contest. The Rams attacked the Blue Angels defense from the opening kickoff. Although an early offsides call stifled NCU's advancement, the Rams quickly responded thirty seconds later with the games first goal off the foot of Payton Swaboda.

The Rams continued to apply pressure early on in the half. Just three minutes after the first goal, the Rams continuously attacked with three shots. After the second shot was saved by Hannah Rose (Jr./Jeromesville, Ohio), NCU gathered their offense on the rebound and set Swaboda up for her second goal of the day making things 2-0 five minutes into the contest.

Just one minute later, Swaboda received a well-placed ball from Emma Brekhus, then Swaboda drilled her third goal into the back of the net making things 3-0.

Karina Salgado (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) was able to muster the Blue Angels two shots in the first half. The speedy midfielder took two shots, with one on goal.

MMU went into the half down 3-0. The Rams had outshot MMU 26-to-2 in the first half and would not let up in the second.

The Rams showered the Blue Angels defense with 24 shots in the second half with a majority on target. NCU was able to find seven second half goals and pushed the lead out 10-0 where it would eventually end.

"It speaks to the character of our team that they played down two players in the blazing heat," added Mount Mary Head Soccer Coach John Baillie. "…and worked hard every second of the game to play the right way and represent for each other and for Mount Mary."

The Blue Angels return to action tomorrow as they head to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to take on Crown College at 12:00 pm. Coverage for the contest can be found here, or visit the Blue Angels schedule page for more details.
