HANCOCK, Mich. – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost to host Finlandia University by a score of 9-0. The Lions are now 9-1-1 on the season while the Blue Angels move to 1-10.

The Lions attacked early and often today at McAfee Field. Finlandia launched the first eight shots of the game with only two completely off target. 12 minutes into the contest, Alexia Gonzales broke the scoreless tie after she unloaded on a pass from Kirsten L'Esperance that she knocked into the back of the net.

Within the next nine minutes, the Lions continued to pressure MMU's goal and scored three more goals on their next seven shots making the score 4-0. The Blue Angels were able to slow down the Finlandia offense for the remainder of the half preventing FU's next 27 shots in the half from scoring.

A quick start in the second half, the Lions infiltrated MMU's territory and knocked in the half's first goal 22 seconds into the frame off the foot of Daisia Knowles. Two minutes later, Knowles knocked in her second goal of the game and her team's sixth Gonzales and L'Esperance combined to set Knowles up inside the box.

L'Esperance would be a part of two of three remaining goals by the Lions in the final 40 minutes of play. After the final whistle, L'Esperance finished with five assists on the day with a pair of goals.

Hannah Rose (Jr./Jeromesville, Ohio) finished the game with 27 saves. Rose leads the American Collegiate Athletic Conference with 165 saves this season; Second place in the ACAA has 68 saves this season.

The Blue Angels return to action next week with a pair of home games at Blue Angels Field. The first of the two is Fri. Oct. 12 beginning at 4:00 pm. Live stats and video of the game will be available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
