Red Lions Capture Finale

MILWAUKEE – The visiting Lincoln Christian University Red Lions defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team 3-0 today at Blue Angels Soccer Field. After both teams' 2018 season finale, the Red Lions are now 6-8 and MMU finishes at 1-14.

With the energy high for both teams, the contest started off with each team trading possessions and shots relatively evenly. After the Red Lions fired off the first two shots of the game, MMU marched back and pressured with two shots of their own within the next few minutes.

At the 11-minute mark, the speedy Abigail Crockett took a pass from teammate Breanna Brackney and worked past the MMU defenders in her path. Then the senior sweeper chipped in the game's first goal.

The Red Lions and Blue Angels continued to trade possessions after the goal. At the 17-minute mark, LCU started to gain momentum and took 10 of the next 13 shots in the game. Hannah Rose (Jr./Jeromesville, Ohio) continued to deter shot after shot coming away with six saves in that time frame.

Five minutes before halftime, Audrey Henningsen found Crockett across the field with a pass. Crockett used her speed and footwork again to break free and knock in her second goal of the day.

After the 2-0 half, Rose had seven of her 12 saves on the day.

With daylight becoming an issue, the teams began the second half quickly. LCU pressured in the brief second half with nine shots to the Blue Angels two. Although both MMU shots required saves, Abigail Crockett added the game's final goal after running half the length of the field to get a step on her defender. Crockett's speed prevailed, and she flipped in her third goal of the night.

At the 70-minute mark, the game ended due to the darkness.

Alexa Ahlgrim (Jr./Inverness, Ill.) led the offense for the Blue Angels with three shots on goal. Rose added 12 saves to her season total and now leads the American Collegiate Athletic Association in saves with 228.

That concludes the 2018 season for the Mount Mary University soccer team. Stay tuned to MtMaryAthletics.com for new and updates on the Blue Angels this offseason.
