Lady Blues Down Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team hosted their second home game in as many days today at Blue Angels Soccer Field. The visiting Illinois College Lady Blues (1-0) defeated the Blue Angels 8-0 in the early afternoon contest.

The Blue Angels kept their opponent at bay for the opening 18 minutes of play. The Lady Blues continued to pressure the goal, and after gaining position at the 19-minute mark inside MMU's goal box, Katie Elmore knocked in Illinois College's first goal of the game.

Over the next ten minutes, IC continued to push on offense spacing out four shots on goal during that span. 29 minutes into the game, the Lady Blues broke through again after Elmore received a well-placed pass that she fired into the net to make the score 2-0.

After halftime, the Lady Blues continued to pressure in MMU territory. Although IC had fewer shots in the second half, they were able to deliver with more accuracy in the final 45 minutes of play.

Six minutes into the second half, the Lady Blues added their first of five goals that they would score in the span of nine minutes of game play. At the 74-minute mark, Illinois College added their eighth and final goal of the game.

Halee Van de Boom (Jr./Saukville, Wis.) led MMU's offense with one shot on goal. Teammate Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) led the game with 18 saves in 90 minutes. Rose is now 0-2 on the season at goalkeeper, but leads the American Collegiate Athletic Association in total saves with 37.

The Blue Angels return to action next Sat. Sept. 7 at 6:00 pm when MMU hosts Eureka. Live stats will be available for the contest. Go to MtMaryAthletics.com for more news and information on your favorite Blue Angels.
