Knights Win 4-0

NEW ULM, Minn. – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost to host Martin Luther College this afternoon. The first of the two-game road trip for the Blue Angels (1-3) saw the Knights take a 2-0 lead at halftime and pushed it to 4-0 for their second win of the season.

After an early shot on goal by the Knights, the Blue Angels corralled the rebound and moved down to the opposition's goal. Kaylie Cook (Jr./Fairborn, Ohio) found position in her opponent's territory and fired a shot on goal, but Mollie Fischer pulled it in for her lone save of the day.

The Knights and Blue Angels traded position, but the Knights began to attack with more consistency after the 10-minute mark. At 14:58 Lydia Bitter knocked in the game's first goal and gave the Vikings an early 1-0 lead.

Over the next ten minutes Martin Luther would attack with 10 shots. Goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) stopped two of those ten shots, but on the 11th, the Knightss were able to crack through and add their second goal.

Rose and the defense held the opposition scoreless for the remainder of the half. Rose added three more saves to her totals, but the Knights held the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Martin Luther continued their attack on the MMU goal. After the defense turned them away for the early portion of the frame, the Knights found the net again 63 minutes into the contest when Emily Witkowski scored her second goal of the season off her own rebound.

With three minutes remaining in the contest, Lydia Bitter received a well-placed pass from Avrey Broyles. With Bitter right in front of MMU's goal, she clipped a shot in the back of the net to make the score 4-0.

Hannah Rose finished the contest with 15 total saves on the day. Rose currently leads the American Collegiate Athletic Association with 54 saves on the season. Teammate Kaylie Cook led the offense with one shot on goal.

The Blue Angels return to action tomorrow against Crown in St. Bonifacius, Minn. at 5:00 pm. For updates, scores and news on the Blue Angels, check out MtMaryAthletics.com. To donate to MMU Soccer click here.
