Tigers Take Victory

MILWAUKEE -- The Mount Mary University soccer team (1-8) lost to the visiting Grace Christian University Tigers. The Tigers scored four goals in the first half and three in the second on their way to their sixth victory of the season.

For the first 17 minutes of play the two teams traded possessions evenly. GCU's Maddie Brown was able to break the tie with a shot right past the finger tips of Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) to make things 1-0.

The Tigers scored three goals in bunches as they put up two more goals in the next five minutes of play. Alica Contreras setup Jennie Sue Pilieci with a timely pass inside MMU's territory. Pilieci used her speed to cut away from the defenders and zipped the ball in the net at 20:59. Her teammate Maddie Brown scored her second goal of the game less than two minutes after Pileci's goal; this time Pileci got the assist setting up Brown for the third goal of the half.

With only three minutes left in the half the Tigers were able to break away for their fourth score when Pileci found Ashley Glass open in MMU's box.

The Blue Angels tightened up their defense in the second half when they allowed only three goals and pulled in nine saves. Glass and Pileci added goals at the 47 and 51-minute marks respectively. Then first half goalkeeper Regan Befus added the game's final goal at 67:06 to make the score 7-0.

Rose added 12 saves to her total as she continues to lead the American Collegiate Athletic Association in that category. Before play today, Rose was nine saves behind the NCAA DIII leader in saves.

After today's contest, the Blue Angels will host Wisconsin Lutheran College tomorrow Sun. Sept 29 at Blue Angels Soccer Field. The game starts at 1:00 pm and will have live stats and video available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
