Vikings Win 6-1

APPLETON, Wis. – Today at Ron Roberts Field, the host Lawrence University Vikings defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team 6-1. The Blue Angels are now 1-10 on the season while the Vikings move to 7-4.

Five minutes into the game, the Vikings took their first corner kick. After a scrum, the Blue Angels accidentally hit the ball into their own goal to give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead.

That lead lasted until the 40-minute mark when the Blue Angels were able to get off their first shot of the contest. Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Wayne, Ind.) went one-on-one with the opposition's goalkeeper and knocked the ball into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.

Less than a minute later the Blue Angels committed a foul 22- yards from the goal. Lawrence's Jackie Blake took the free kick and knocked the ball into the goal to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.

Blake scored her second goal of the game just moments later when teammate Ellie Younger hit Blake off a cross to the center box. After the quick goal, the Vikings would take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

After the beginning of the second half, the Blue Angels kept the opposition off the scoreboard for over 10 minutes. After four saves by American Collegiate Athletic Association leader Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio), the Vikings hit their fourth goal of the game into the net making the score 4-1.

Over the next twenty minutes of the half, Rose would reel in six more saves. At 74:40 and 78:33, Ellie Younger scored goals number five and six to give the Vikings a 6-1 lead, where the game would end.

Rose adds 22 saves to her totals and now leads the ACAA with 190 saves.

Hardy now leads the Blue Angels offense with two goals on the season.
