Lions Capture Win

HANCOCK, Mich. -- Today at McAfee Field, the host Finlandia University Lions defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team 11-0. The Blue Angels are now 1-12 on the season and the Lions move to 9-4-1.

Hannah Rose (Jeromesville, Ohio) led the defense in today's contest. The senior goalkeeper reeled in a combined 18 saves against the American Collegiate Athletic Association foe Finlandia University. Rose led the NCAA Division III women's soccer ranks in saves to begin the week, and leads the ACAA in saves with 217.

On offense, the Blue Angels had three different players attempt a shot: Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Wayne, Ind.), Lexi Shadlow (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) and Melissa Golo (So./Boise, Idaho).

The Lions quickly tested the NCAA leader in saves, Hannah Rose, with three early shots. Rose turned those early shots away, but at the ten-minute mark, the Lions fired in their first goal of the game when Erika Lambert launched a header from teammate Katie Brown.

Within the next two minutes, the Lions added three more goals and moved the score to 4-0. At the 18-minute mark, Finlandia added their fifth goal of the game.

90 seconds before the end of the half, the Lions surged for three goals with one crossing the line at 44:59. After the quick output, Finlandia went into halftime ahead 8-0.

Following the half, the Lions added three goals in the second. Rose and Mount Mary's defense resisted with 10 saves in the second frame.

FU's Kirsten L'Esperance led the opposition's offense with three goals.

The Blue Angels return to action Sat, Oct. 19 when they head to the Windy City to take on North Park. The two teams will kickoff at 1:00 pm, live stats and video will be available for the contest. Links for the game can be found at MtMaryAthletics.com.
