Vikings Capture Victory

CHICAGO -- Today at the Holmgren Athletic Complex, the host North Park University Vikings defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team  by a score of 10-0. After today's contest, the Vikings are 3-11 and the Blue Angels move to 1-12.

The American Collegiate Athletic Association leader in saves, Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) added 17 saves to her totals against the Vikings. Rose is ranked second in NCAA Division III women's soccer in saves, just 11 saves behind Rockford's Amelia Harper as of Wednesday of this week.

On offense, the Blue Angels were led by Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Wayne, Ind.). Wayne fired one shot during the game against North Park.

The Vikings attacked MMU's defense quickly. Just 39 seconds into the game, Sam Moreno broke away from the opposition and gave North Park a 1-0 lead with her first of three goals in the game. 

MMU kept their opponent off the scoreboard for the next 15 minutes. Then off a cross 50 yards away from MMU's goal at 15:39, Clara Wernbo hit her first of four goals into the back of the net.

The Vikings added two more goals in the first half at the 23 and 30-minute marks respectively. MMU's goalkeeper, Hannah Rose finished the first half with seven saves.

North Park spaced their first three of six goals over the first 25 minutes. Then at the 80-minute mark, the Vikings began a three goal run that would span over the next eight minutes. Of the 29 shots taken by the Vikings, Rose saved 10 in the second half to move her to 17 on the day.
