MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team defeated visiting Andrews University 2-1 today at Blue Angels Soccer Field. The Blue Angels (2-13) scored a pair of goals in the first half on their way to their victory in the rematch against the Cardinals (1-8) Sunday.

Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Worth, Ind.) led the Blue Angels offense with an assist to start the Blue Angels offense, and a breakaway goal that gave MMU their second goal of the game in the 2-1 victory. Teammate Halee Van de Boom (Jr./Saukville, Wis.) scored MMU's first goal of the game with one of her two shots on the day.

Senior Hannah Rose (Jeromesville, Ohio) collected eight more saves to add to her American Collegiate Athletic Association lead in saves with 242. Rose is just nine saves away from tying the program's single-season record for saves. As of Wednesday, Rose was second in NCAA Division III women's soccer for total saves.

In the opening half, the Blue Angels came out the aggressors on offense while playing tight defense on the other end of the field. MMU took a slight advantage in possession time early taking the first shot of the game just four minutes after the opening kickoff.

After the teams traded possessions thereafter, Nyasia Hardy found teammate Halee Van de Boom open on a long cross pass. Van de Boom collected the pass and quickly unloaded on the ball to hit the first goal of the game and give MMU a 1-0 lead at the 14-minute mark.

Over the next 13 minutes, Andrews pressured MMU's defense. With four shots on goal, goalkeeper Hannah Rose was on point collecting all four saves in that span.

Near the 28-minute mark, Nyasia Hardy won a scrum for a ball near the sidelines and used her speed to accelerate past multiple defenders. From the right side, Hardy attacked the goal and bent a shot beyond the fingertips of AU's goalkeeper, Rose Smith, for the game's second goal of the game.

The two teams went into halftime with a 2-0 score after trading possessions to end the half. Ten minutes into the second half, the Cardinals capitalized on a corner kick when Kristen Proctor sent a pass right into MMU's crowded box where Katie Krawczyk clipped in AU's one goal of the game.

The two team's continued to trade possession and field position for the remaining 35 minutes. The Blue Angels fired three more shots on goal in the half, while Hannah Rose was able to corral four more saves in half number two to give MMU the 2-1 victory.

After today's victory, the Blue Angels will return to the pitch Wed. Oct. 23 to take on Lincoln Christian at 3:00 pm at Blue Angels Soccer Field. Live stats and video for the contest will be available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
