Blue Angels Close Out Regular Season

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team closed out their regular season today at Blue Angels Soccer Field. The host Blue Angels lost 4-0 to their longtime rivals Maranatha Baptist University (6-7).

Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) finished her collegiate career today with another high-save performance. Sitting second in NCAA Division III women's soccer for total saves, Rose has set multiple MMU records along the way. The senior goalkeeper is now MMU's all-time career leader in saves and the lone member of the 700-Club with 702 career saves. She also set the single-season record at MMU with 282 saves this year.

On offense, the Blue Angels were again led by Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Worth, Ind.). The freshman forward took one shot on goal in the first half.

The Blue Angels traded possessions early with the Sabercats. At the 10-minute mark MBU's scoring leader, Alexis Sponable, played a loose ball that fell away from the goal box. Near the 25-yard mark, Sponable launched a high arcing shot that found the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

Eight minutes later the Sabercats added another goal when Kseniya Hassenplug collected a rebound off a Hannah Rose save and flipped a quick shot into the goal. Rose made a diving save on the previous shot from Sponable that gave Hassenplug the opening for the 2-0 score.

After taking 15 shots in the first half, the Sabercats fired 16 in the second half. Sponable scored her second goal of the game six minutes into the second half on a breakaway pass from Sarah Moore.

MBU added their final goal with 22 minutes remaining in the contest on another breakaway goal, this one from Amy Montgomery.

The Blue Angels will now begin their off-season as the 2019 season comes to an official end. MMU finished 3-15 this season and set many new marks along the way. Check back to MtMaryAthletics.com throughout the year for more news on your favorite Blue Angels.
