Mount Mary University Tennis Keeps On Spinning

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Blue Angels beat Marian University in (6-3) win, which moves Mount Mary University to (3-1) on the season.

Ana Mercado (So./Grafton, Wis.) continued to dominate. Mercado and Andrea Monacelli (So./Sussex, Wis.) doubled up to win the first doubles match 8-6. Brooke Slamka (Jr./Racine, Wis.) and Krista Olson (Jr./Appleton, Wis.) moved up to the second doubles team due to illness striking the locker-room. Slamka and Olson would turn the heads of the large MMU crowd as they answered the call and win in an 8-3 match.

The success traveled to the singles matches. Mercado won against number one singles opponent Melissa Spannbauer (So./Fond Du Lac, Wis.) in 6-4, 6-1 match. Second singles match would go in favor of Monacelli 6-2, 6-1 for the Blue Angels.

The singles continued to impress, MMU's number three singles Olson won 6-2, 6-1. Brooke Slamka beat Natalie Boyle (Sr./Fond Du Lac,Wis.) 6-3, 6-1 in another convincing match for the Blue Angels.

Fourth year head coach Tom Troast was quite pleased with his team, "To see young players that generally play in the four, five and six slots rise to play the top members of another team and then not only compete, but win, was just amazing."

The MMU tennis team will try to keep up their top tier play when they head up to Lakeland, Wis. to face the Lakeland College Muskies. The dual match on Sept. 19 will start at 4:00 pm.
