Blue Angels Hire Tennis Coach

Blue Angels Hire Tennis Coach

MILWAUKEE -- Mount Mary University is proud to announce that Callie Schroeder will be the next head tennis coach.

"We are very excited to have Coach Callie join us as the tennis team makes its great transition as our first conference affiliated program!" MMU Director of Athletics Marc Heidorf states.

"I am enthusiastic and ready to show other schools what we can bring to the table." Coach Callie Schroeder goes on, "I hope to qualify for the conference tournament in the spring. Being new to the conference, I hope to play competitively against the other teams and prove to the other teams we deserve our spot in the conference. "

Coach Schroeder made a name for herself playing at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis. as a four year varsity athlete. Along with being on the Midwest Conference All-Academic team four years in a row, Schroeder was a two time captain. Playing at nearly every position in doubles and singles, Schroeder has a vast amount of experience to pass onto the Blue Angels tennis team.

Schroeder also worked for the Manitowoc Recreation Department as a tennis instructor for two seasons while playing in the NCAA ranks at St. Norbert College.

While at St. Norbert College, Schroeder went through two coach regimes. During the process coach Schroeder learned some valuable aspects of coaching. "I hope to be as enthusiastic, inspiring, and involved as my college coaches were." Schroeder went on, "…my coaches were always there for any personal issues we faced, offering support in any way possible. They made the team feel like a family away from home, which is something I hope to do for the Mount Mary Women's team."

After graduating from St. Norbert College with a dual major in psychology and sociology, Coach Schroeder went to the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology where she is currently completing her studies towards a Master's of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology.

"I enjoyed every minute of playing for Saint Norbert College and the friends and relationships with my coaches I gained are lifetime relationships." Schroeder goes on about the importance of coaching, "my college experience would not have been the same without tennis and I want to make sure these girls have an awesome experience as well."

The Blue Angels are now heading into their first year as associate members of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. With the addition of Coach Schroeder along with the new affiliation, MMU is excited to begin the 2015 season.
