Warriors Win Over Blue Angels

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Mount Mary University tennis team lost today to the hosting Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 8-1. The match at Hart Park makes the Blue Angels 1-10 (1-8) on the season and the Warriors now sit at 8-2 (6-1) and in second place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings.

The doubles matches went 3-0 in favor of the Warriors. The team of Brooke Slamka (Sr./Racine, Wis.) and Krista Olson (Sr./Appleton, Wis.) put up one of the best fights for the doubles teams, but their counterparts won the team point 8-4.

For the Blue Angels, the No. 1 singles spot has struggled with the high level of competition in the NACC. Tonight, Ana Mercado (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) took control in the number one singles by winning 7-5, 6-2 over Wisconsin Lutheran's Paige Potaracke.

Olson filled the No. 4 singles today at Hart. She battled Amanda Pearson, but Pearson came out victorious in a close 7-6, 6-4 match.

The Blue Angels will now get ready for their fall finale. The Blue Angels sit in 10th place, and could move to ninth with a victory in their final dual match against Marian University. The Sabres are 5-6 (4-4) and are at sixth in the NACC going into Saturday's game. MMU will battle the Sabres at Hart Park on Oct. 3 beginning at 3:00 pm.
