Tough Test For Blue Angels

Tough Test For Blue Angels

Two games left for Mount Mary University volleyball. Both games on the road to finish the 2014 season, and the first is coming against familiar Association of Division III Independents rival Maranatha Baptist University. The match is on Friday Oct. 24th in Watertown, Wis. starting at 7:00pm.

This is the fourth installment of this season's series between the teams. MBU has won each match this season against the Blue Angels (0-26), and every contest since MMU joined NCAA DIII in 2009. The Sabercats (25-6) have been on top of NCCAA DII Midwest Region, right now only one thousandth "Power Rating" point behind number one Kentucky Christian University (19-6).

Throughout the season the Blue Angels have had to tinker with the lineup. Either due to finding the right chemistry on the court or injuries. The issues of injuries hit in the middle of the year when setter Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) went down for a few weeks and the team had to try to shuffle and find a new setup on the court.

Once Hintz came back, the team started to show signs of progression, but disaster has struck once again, as Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) was hurt in the first game of the team's triangular against Finlandia University on Oct. 17th.

In efforts to compensate for the seniors presence around the net, multiple underclasswomen have been called upon to spark something on the court. Andrea Roell (So./Kingsford, Mich.) led the team in the last match with four kills in Wishau's absence. Hintz tied Roell with four kills, and was heating up behind the service line with three serve aces.

After the match against the Sabercats, MMU will get ready for the season finale. The last game will be against Northland International University on Tuesday Oct. 28th at 5:30 pm in Dunbar, Wis.
