Blue Angels Drop Two

CHICAGO – Today at the Illinois Institute of Technology Triangular, the Mount Mary University volleyball team lost matches to both Grace Bible College in a 3-1 affair, and host IIT 3-0. The losses for MMU makes the Blue Angels 2015 record 2-10.

Riding the momentum from their come-from-behind victory over Silver Lake days earlier, the Blue Angels took charge in the first set against Grace Bible. As a team, the Blue Angels finished with a .111 kill percentage, and went on to win that set 25-20.

Grace Bible (8-7) took the second set 25-23. The difference may have been the seven attack errors for MMU opposed to their five in set one. Following that, the Tigers took the next two in a pair of close sets, and would ultimately go on to win 3-1.

For the Tigers, Amy Leszinske and Adrianna Bunce finished with a game high 13 kills each. Teammate Abby Schultz finished with 34 assists to lead both teams.

Lauren Harris (Fr./Sheridan, Ill.) led the offensive attack for MMU with nine kills and only two errors to also give her a team leading .233 kill percentage. Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) led the Blue Angels with 25 assists in match one.

In the second match, the Blue Angels went up against the Scarlet Hawks (9-7). IIT came out as a very accurately attacking team. Finishing the first set with their lowest kill percentage of the day (.225) led to a big 25-15 win.

The Scarlet Hawks continued their accuracy after that, finishing the next two sets at .250 and .294 respectively. A mirror of the team's accuracy, Irena Grauzinis led the game with 11 kills and with a single error it also led to her .357 kill percentage.

After finishing the first match with eight kills, Katy Carlson (Fr./Whitewater, Wis.) took charge in the second contest with a team leading six kills. Terasa did her best to get the offense going leading her team with nine assists in the second match.

With nearly a week until their next match, the Blue Angels will now get ready for the Finlandia University Tournament. A two day, four game event that will pit the Blue Angels up against teams like Grace Bible, North Central (Minn.), Gogebic Community College, and host Finlandia. The first game for the Blue Angels will be Fri. Oct. 9 beginning at 2:00 pm in Hancock, Mich.
