Lakers With Late Victory

MANITOWOC, Wis. – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost their match to host Silver Lake College tonight. Despite two close sets to open the Lakers won the match 3-0 and now move to 4-8 overall on the season while the Blue Angels are now 1-7 on the year.

The two teams traded points to open up the night. When one team took a small lead, the other fought right back. Eventually, the Lakers were able to grab ahold of the lead and take that first set in a close 25-21 fashion.

The second set mirrored the first. The Blue Angels battled throughout. MMU struck 11 kills on 51 total attacks in the set for their most efficient offensive frame of the night. The Lakers also hit accurately in the set and came away with 13 kills on their 48 team attacks. SLC used that edge to grab the set 25-21.

In the final set, the Lakers attacked with even more accuracy. In set three, SLC hit 11 kills in their 38 team attacks with only two errors. The Blue Angels continued to apply pressure throughout the frame, but the Lakers came away with the 25-15 set-win and the overall match.

Marissa Tun (Sr./Greenfield, Wis.) led the Blue Angels with 25 digs and a service ace. Teammate Adrianna Nester (Jr./Anaheim, Calif.) led MMU's offense with eight kills on 37 attacks. Alessa Nelson (Jr./Rockford, Ill.) kept the offense for the Blue Angels going with a team high 32 assists.

Following tonight's match, the Blue Angels return home Sat. Sept. 29 at the Bloechl Center. MMU will play host to Finlandia University for a 1:00 pm contest. Live stats and video will be available for Saturday's match at MtMaryAthletcs.com.
