Eagles Soar Over Blue Angels

ANKENY, Iowa – Today at Nettleton Center, the visiting Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to Faith Baptist Bible College 3-1. The loss for the Blue Angels moves them to 1-10 on the season as the Eagles move to 10-8.

The Blue Angels took a convincing lead in the first set. Adrianna Nester (Jr./Anaheim, Calif.) led off serving for MMU, and by the end of her turn behind the line, the Blue Angels led 6-1. The two teams traded points until the Eagles rattled off 7-to-1 run against MMU to take the lead. Tied at 22-22, the Eagles struck with three straight kills to grab the set-win.

FBBC started the second set off with four straight points and the lead. This set, however, the Blue Angels came from behind with a 13-to-3 run. The shift in score gave MMU the lead which they would not surrender for the remainder frame. The winning set for MMU was one of the most accurate of the season for the Blue Angels with 14 team kills on 31 attacks and just two errors.

The Eagles grabbed the lead in the third set, but the Blue Angels continued to tie and play catch-up throughout. After the Blue Angels moved the score to 22-20, the Eagles scored the last three points to grab the 2-1 lead in the match. FBBC struck 12 team kills on their 50 total attacks; MMU had 10 team kills on their 50 attacks in the set.

In the fourth set, the Blue Angels grabbed the lead and forced their opponents to catch up nearly every other run. MMU hit eight team kills on their 43 total attacks, but the Eagles efficiency came through in the end. Tied 14-14, FBBC score five of the next seven points. MMU chipped away with two straight points to make things 19-18, but the Eagles scored six straight to finish the set 25-18 and the match.

Lauren Harris (Sr./Sheridan, Ill.) led the offense for the Blue Angels with 14 kills on her 58 attacks. Nester similarly attacked with 12 kills on her 34 attacks and 21 digs. Teammate Alessa Nelson (Jr./Rockford, Ill.) led the team with 27 assists and three service aces.
