Eagles Soar to Victory

DUBUQUE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost today's match against host Emmaus Bible College 3-0. The Eagles are now 15-0 after winning this season's rematch and the Blue Angels move to 1-11 on the year.

After the Eagles took the early 3-0 lead, the Blue Angels fought right back eventually tying things at 4-4. EBC rattled off a 6-0 run after the early tie, and never surrendered the lead thereafter. With 10 team kills on 33 total attacks, the Eagles were able to take the early set by a score of 25-17.

In the second set, EBC jumped out to an early lead again. This time after a 3-0 start, the Blue Angels chipped away, but were only able to cut things to 6-3. After a number of small runs by the eagles, a 10-1 run to end the set made things 25-9.

It was the most accurate set of the night for the Eagles as the team hit 12 team kills on their 24 total attacks. The overall attack was good enough for a .375 kill percentage.

Emmaus took a 7-0 lead to begin the third set. After a number of runs by EBC, the Blue Angels mustered a 4-0 run of their own late in the set. But the lead and continued attack of the Eagles gave EBC the 25-11 set win and overall match victory.

Lauren Harris (Sheridan, Ill.) led the offensive attack for the Blue Angels. Tonight, the senior finished with three kills on 13 total attacks. Harris also led the team with nine digs. Teammate Alessa Nelson (Jr./Rockford, Ill.) led MMU's offense with seven assists and one service ace.

After tonight, the Blue Angels will return to action next Thu. Oct. 11 as they head to Gary, Ind. to take on Indiana University Northwest. The rematch for the contest is scheduled for an 8:00 pm (CST) start time. Final scores, news and updates can be found at MtMaryAthletics.com.
