MILWAUKEE – Today at the Reiman Gymnasium, the Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to host Alverno College. The teams entered the night winless, the Inferno grabbed their first win of the season taking the match 3-0.

The Inferno took the opening set 25-17. The two teams traded points early and the score landed on 4-4. Once there, the Inferno sprang for a 9-2 run. MMU came back with a 9-3 run and cut their deficit down to just one. Alverno riffled off 12 team kills on 35 total attacks on their way to the set-win.

In the second set, the Blue Angels responded with their biggest offensive output of the evening. MMU started the set off in rhythm and thus took a 7-3 lead over their rival Alverno. The Inferno chipped away at the early lead and the two teams traded points and serves until MMU led 22-20. Alverno was able to collect five of the final six points of the set as they were able to steal the win.

In the final set, the Inferno took an early 7-0 lead. After the early surge, the Blue Angels fired back and cut the deficit to 15-10. The Inferno continue to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the set and were able to take the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Three different Blue Angels helped the offense against the Inferno with a team high three kills: Adrianna Nester (Sr./Anaheim, Calif.), Aislinn Strusz (So./Aurora, Ill.) and Alyssa Davis (So./Milwaukee, Wis.). Brianna Ecker (Fr./Fond du Lac, Wis.) led her team in assists with seven. Ecker also kept the ball off the court with a team high 11 digs.

After tonight's match, the Blue Angels will return to action this weekend when they head to Illinois to take place in the Rockford Invitational. The Blue Angels will play four matches over the span of the two-day tournament. The first of which begins Fri. Sept. 13 at 4:00 pm. Live stats and video will be available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
