Archers Over Blue Angels

Archers Over Blue Angels

CHICAGO -- The Moody Bible Institute Archers defeated the Mount Mary University volleyball team 3-0 today at the Solheim Center. The Archers (3-8) win over the Blue Angels moves MMU to 1-14 on the season.

In the first set, the defense made the difference. Both teams would finish the opening frame with more errors than team kills. The Archers nine team kills and early lead in the set gave the host team enough room to hold onto the 25-18 winning set. MMU accurately attacked in the first set, however, with five kills on just six team attacks.

In the second set of the evening, the Blue Angels went back and forth with their opponent from the Windy City. The Archers took an early lead, but the Blue Angels never let the lead slip away through the set. After the Archers surged late with a five point lead, the Blue Angels cut the score to 24-22, but MBI was able to tack on the final set point to go up 2-0 in the match.

In the third and final set of the evening. The Archers attacked with their most accurate set of the night. Despite the Blue Angels forcing MBI into 13 team errors, the Archers landed 10 team kills in their 22 total attacks. MMU battled, but the Archers were able to sustain the lead throughout the third set on their way to a 25-17 set-win and overall match-victory.

Adrianna Nester (Sr./Anaheim, Calif.) and Emma Carufel (So./St. Francis, Wis.) each helped MMU's offense with a team leading three kills. Nester also led her team with one service ace.

Libero Megan Johnson (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) helped her team with 30 digs.

The Blue Angels will return to Wisconsin for a match against the Milwaukee School of Engineering tomorrow, Sat. Sept. 28. Live video and stats will be available for the game at the Kern Center. First serve for Saturday's contest is scheduled for 2:30 pm. Links are available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
