Archers Win Finale

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team closed out their regular season tonight at the Bloechl Center. Visiting Moody Bible Institute (8-8) defeated the Blue Angels 3-0 in the regular season finale for MMU.

The Blue Angels (6-22) were led on offense by Jacklyn Mozdzen (So./Wautoma, Wis.) with a team high five kills. Teammate Brianna Ecker (Fr./Fond du Lac, Wis.) kept the Blue Angels offense going with a team leading nine assists.

Senior Adrianna Nester (Anahiem, Calif.) continued to lead the Blue Angels, and the American Collegiate Athletic Association, in digs. Nester tallied 20 tonight against the Archers and leads the ACAA with 390 this season.

In the first set, the Archers grabbed the early 3-0 lead. MMU bounced right back with a 4-0 run to recapture the lead. MBI landed 12 team kills in the opening frame. The Archers were able to use that attack to get a 20-12 lead late in the set. MMU went on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit down to four, but the Archers rattled of a 4-0 run to take the set 25-17.

The Archers took an early lead in the second set. MMU kept up the attack on offense landing six team kills on their 54 total attacks. On the other side of the court, MBI finished with their most efficient set of the evening with 12 kills and only five attack errors. Late in the set, MMU cut the deficit down to one. The Archers claimed the second set after a 6-2 run pushed the score to 25-20.

In the final set of the match, the Archers took the early 7-2 lead. MMU continued to chip away at the lead slowly, after a 4-0 run started with Lauren Nylund (So./Muskego, Wis.) behind the service line, the Blue Angels tied the set at 14-14.

MMU landed six team kills on their 48 total attacks for their most effective set of the evening. The opposition landed 14 kills in the final set and took an extended run late on their way to a 25-18 set-win.

With the regular season at an end, the Blue Angels will now gear up for the 2019 American Collegiate Athletic Association Conference Tournament. MMU is scheduled to play Pratt (18-7) in the first round of the conference tournament on Sat. Nov. 2 at 4:00 pm CDT. The winner of that contest will go to the championship match scheduled for Sun.
