10th Place For Blue Angels

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Mount Mary University cross country team began their season today at the Tom Barry Invitational. The Blue Angels finished 10th place out of the 11 teams on the five-kilometer course. Host St. Norbert College took first place in team scoring and had Graceanne Tarsa take home first place in individual placing for the Green Knights with a 19:24.7 time.

After months of preparing for the 2018 season, the Blue Angels finally hit the course today. The humidity played a factor in the run today, but the Blue Angels were up to the task. Christina Ishaq (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.) led the way for the Blue Angels finishing in 40th place crossing the finish line at 23:49.6.

Not far behind Ishaq, newcomer Emily Green (Fr./Waukesha, Wis.) finished in 53rd place overall in her first collegiate race. The youngster set a pace of 8:09 per mile in her inaugural event.

Miranda Fluegge (So./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was mere strides behind Green finishing in 55th place with a 25:18.9 time. After last season's long stretch of six-kilometer races, this is the first official five-kilometer finish for the sophomore.

Finishing out the placing for the Blue Angels was Ana Andrade (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.) and Johnelle Suto (So./Enterprise, Ore.) who finished in 59th and 61st place respectively. Andrade finished with a 27:10.9 while Suto managed a 29:06.4 in their first collegiate race.

Following today's race, the Blue Angels will have a week to prepare for their next event. Sat. Sept. 8, the Blue Angels will head to Mequon, Wis. to take part in the Ken Weidt Classic. The starting gun for this year's race on the campus of Concordia University Wisconsin is scheduled for 11:00 am. Results and news for the race can be found at MtMaryAthletics.com.
